Spring 2022 Symposium

“Beyond ‘Defensive Crouch,’ Religious Freedom.”

March 24-25, 2022

For our Spring 2022 Symposium, we partnered with the Liberty and Law Center at GMU to bring together top law and religion scholars, litigators, and policy experts to explore: the goods and values that religious exercise furthers, including institutional religious exercise; how religious values can not only serve, but even better promote the values of equality, dignity, and freedom as currently articulated by the state; and how religious institutions might better understand and communicate the social worth of religion and religious freedom.

Speakers:

  • Gerard Bradley, Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame
  • Elizabeth Clark, Associate Director of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies
  • Shannon Minter, Legal Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR)
  • Anthony R. Picarello Jr., Associate General Secretary for Policy and Advocacy at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)
  • Helen Alvaré, Robert A. Levy Endowed Chair in Law and Liberty at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University
